Artist

Roman Chikerinets was born 1984 in Ivano-Frankivsk Ukraine.
He received his B.A. Degree from Hunter College CUNY, and is currently working towards his Master of Architecture at Pratt. The artist's most recognizable works are the swan like abstract characters. The underlying theme of his work is the playful elemental folklore that comments on modern life and our civilization. He creates these toy-like mythological swan heroes to escape, hide secrets and deal with the modern estrangement. The swans are inspired by the humble upbringing he experienced in Ukraine. Roman remembers the rural, romanticized way of life where he experienced encounters with nature and mystical forest. His swans take up a life form of a bulbous plant or mushroom and hint at bodily organs. They are animals that lead the lives of plants or fungi.
